The Woman's Wesley class of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church plans its annual picnic at City Lake Park on Thursday, June 12, with events starting at five o'clock and supper at 6:30. If rain delays, the picnic moves to the church basement. The Young Adult Class will picnic Monday at Lindale Dairy Farm off Greensboro Road, with cars meeting at the church at six. Phone numbers 3242 and 2228 are listed for attendees, inviting all young adults.
The Mayflower and other church circles gather across multiple congregations. Mothers Class of Trinity Baptist met Friday at Mrs Mae Michael s home with Mrs Ollie Wade leading devotion followed by games and refreshments for ten members and five visitors. Martha Holton YW A of Green Street Baptist will meet Monday at 7 30 pm at Mrs Carson Stout s home High Point Route 2. Various Woman s Society of Christian Service circles of Main Street Methodist, Green Street Baptist, First Methodist and Wesley Memorial plan meetings Monday and Tuesday at designated hosts and times, with several circles listed by number and hostess. A Young People s Christian Endeavor supper is set at First Methodist at 6 30 pm for college students home for the summer. Circle meetings include hostesses and leaders at Lindsay Street, Meadow Street, and other addresses as noted.
The High Point Garden Club plans its final summer meeting with a 4:30 PM business session at Mrs. S. H. Tomilin son’s home 203 Hillcrest Drive followed by a 5:00 PM garden party. Associate hostesses and times listed for members including Mrs. J. R. Wood, Mrs. A. C. Sawyer, Mrs. G. C. Howard, and Alda Grayson.
The Wesleyan Guild of the First Methodist Church will gather at 418 Gatewood Avenue Monday at 8 o'clock. Mrs. A M Richardson will lead the devotional and program.
Tuesday evening schedule lists the Tuesday Evening Garden Club picnic at Taylor's cabin near Jamestown from 10:30 p m to midnight and multiple meetings including D A R Flag Day program at Emerywood Country Club. Other events include High Point Garden Club party and Y W C A picnic supper at City Lake Park plus Altrusa business meeting and Mid-Week Garden Club picnic at Mrs J E Millis farm.
Seven local high school senior girls will attend the second annual Girls State session at Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro June 15 to 21. Sponsored by local civic groups and individuals, the attendees include Gloria Hderton Nancy Meredith Peggy Teague Anna Lou Decter Catherine Albertson Catherine Cross and Ruby Parker with Doctor as the non senior participant. The program aims to teach practical American government through active participation and leadership development.
Miss Lois Hardison of this city will wed Harold Gray Harrison of Thomasville at Wesley Memorial Church this morning at nine. The ceremony will be simple with close relatives present, conducted by Dr. Embree Hi. Blackard. Bride's sister Miss Louise Hardison is maid of honor, Leroy Wilson serves as best man, and music will be provided by Mrs Bascom Whitaker and Roy Padgett.
Mrs A L Stevens leads the local girls sponsorship from High Point under the supervision of the local unit with Mrs A L Waynick serving as president this year.
