Highland Mills Strike Not Settled At Parley
Twelve hundred workers at Highland Cotton Mills in High Point remained on strike with little progress toward settlement. Mill officials led by J E Millis met TWUA Highland local president W W Anderson for hours but made no concessions. A second afternoon meeting was planned with no guaranteed outcome. Union leaders said they offered a proposal rejected by management, while Millis dismissed talk of a stretchout and said no progress was reported. The mill had recently granted about a 3 percent wage increase in a contract with TWUA, but unions insist working conditions remain intolerable despite pay.

Plywood Price Cut Demanded by Government
Washington June 7 Leon Henderson price administrator urged plywood makers to cut prices from 830 to 28 per thousand square feet on one quarter inch plywood and reduce all other plywood prices accordingly or face a ceiling. He asked a five cent jobber discount on future government project quotations. Despite a recent five percent bid rise for 60 000 feet of plywood, industry officials doubt a ceiling will work. West Coast plants are on strike, aiding shortages, and some say government action may be needed to secure supply for furniture and other needs.
