Hoey Wins Clear Majority In Local Democratic Primary

Clyde Hoey secured a clear majority in Guilford’s gubernatorial division with 2 423 votes, defeating Ralph W. Graham and John A. McRae. J W Bailey led in High Point with 2 710 votes over R T Fountain, while William B Umstead won renomination here with 2 323 votes. Local races for senator and house also show strong leads and stable results amid a heavy turnout.

Bakers Announce Bread Price Reduction and Bigger Loaves

Chicago report says American Bakers' Association cut bread price by half cent nationwide citing relief from processing taxes. Seven Injured in Iowa Explosion Damages Four Buildings

Byrns Honored Among Tennessee Immortals

Nashville June 6 President Roosevelt joined Tennessee mourners at funeral services for late Speaker Joseph W Byrns. About 40 000 people paid respects as ministers spoke at War Memorial Auditorium and Mount Olivet cemetery where Byrns body was laid in a vault awaiting burial.

Woman Senator McKee Trailing Opponent in Democratic Bid

In Asheville on June 6 the only woman to hold a North Carolina senate seat, Mrs. B L McKee of Sylvia, trailed her opponent Adam Moses in the Democratic nomination race for the 82nd district. With 15 of 19 Jackson County precincts counted, McKee had 1,004 votes to Moses 1,083, reflecting a tight contest. Mrs. McKee previously served in the 1931 senate.

Naval Commander Held After Auto Attack In Winston-Salem

Lieutenant Commander A C Mc Fall of the United States Naval Air Corps, a Naval Academy graduate, was released on a $1,000 bond in Winston-Salem after an automobile incident that killed 55 year old N V Madison. Police planned to charge him with manslaughter in addition to a reckless driving count.
