Central High Senior Named Presidential Scholar
Rhonda Moore of High Point Central High School has been chosen as one of 121 Presidential Scholars earning a trip to Washington D C to meet top federal officials. The senior, editor of The Pointer and member of multiple honors groups, will travel June 13 for a three day visit culminating with a White House tour.

Reading Clubs Set At Library
High Point Public Library offers two summer reading clubs for children. The Wise Old Owl Club for grades one to three meets Wednesdays at 2 30 p.m with a kickoff this Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Come and See Club for grades four to six meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 4 p.m and 10 a.m respectively. Registration runs through Aug 21 for Owl Club and July 28 for Come and See.

Welfare program changes could shift funds to federal level
North Carolina may face a fourfold rise in potential welfare recipients if federal Social Security amendments pass. The plan would move all categorical assistance programs from state and county control to the federal government, leaving Medicaid and related services locally.
