War Diary Excerpt from Normandy Front Describes Collapse and Retreat
An artillery adjutant recalls the Normandy invasion from Avranches, detailing worn soldiers, inexperienced replacements, air superiorities of the Allies, and the morale plunge as American and British forces breached the coast. He notes heavy losses in Unit 1154, a deadly Aug 11 assault, and his own injury.
