Escaped Prisoner Held Here Before Federal Return

Jim Byrd a white prisoner escaped from the Atlanta federal penitentary after six months of freedom is now held in a city jail awaiting federal authorities. He faces about five months more confinement to finish a sentence of one year and a day for violation of the national prohibition law. Byrd was arrested Thursday afternoon at Peerless Veneering company where he had worked for several months.

Thomas N Jones Dies Near Trinity at 75

Thomas N Jones, 75, died this morning at his home near Trinity of apoplexy after illness. Survived by widow, four sons Dr A C Jones of this city and William Claud and Allen Jones of near Trinity, plus brother Eli Jones. Funeral set for tomorrow at Marlboro Friends Church, where he was a life long member.

Hospital cleared in death of insane resident Williams

Raleigh June 4 A clean bill of health and freedom from blame in the death of H B Williams of Beaufort county was given to the state hospital for the insane at Morganton by Attorney General Dennis G Brummitt after an inquiry into neglect and cruelty charges. He found attendants failed to wash Williams feet and remove a dark coating from teeth but concluded the hospital did not contribute to the death which resulted from advancing senile dementia and cellulitis.
