Machinist Killed As Freight Collision Near Florence
Florence June 3 John L. Johnson a machinist at the Atlantic Coast Line Florence shops was killed at 10 25 am when a double header freight bound for Augusta Ga crashed into the rear end of a living car on a wreck train pulling into a siding two miles west of Florence. Wreck train foreman Earl Rivers was treated for a broken arm and cuts. Eight feet of the crew living car was demolished and several cars left the track. The wreck train was partly in Revell gin house siding when the freight neared. Trainmaster J C Mixon said an immediate investigation would determine the cause.
