Annual Musical Festival at American Theater

The third annual festival by the city public schools music department features over 100 students. High school band orchestra boys and girls glee clubs and mixed chorus perform with soloists and a quartet including Helen Reich and John Clinard. Directed by Lewis L. Rattlesnake Ends Hunger Strike in State Museum

A rattlesnake starved itself to death in the state museum, curator H. T. Davis reported. The rattler, caught Sept 9 by W. H. Blanchard in Jones county, grew additional rattles in captivity and measured three feet. The museum drew about 28,000 visitors in the year ending June 1.

High School Orchestra and Choir Performances Prompt Community Singing

The program features La Petite overture and Booster March Richer, High School Band community singing, and selections from High School Girls and Mixed Glee Clubs. Increase Sought to Be Considered by Salary Commission

Raleigh June 2 The salary and wage commission will consider recommendations for raises for 895 highway department workers at its June 7 meeting. Edwin B Bridges says the list was prepared and notified within the time limit, allowing review despite an initial technical ruling. If granted 395 raises would add about 534 000 monthly to the payroll, far surpassing other departments combined.

Dynamite Blast Kills Convict near Greenville Camp

Abner Stepp, 40, died instantly in a dynamite explosion near the county convict camp. A nearby convict was severely injured but not believed fatally. The blast also set off a second dynamite box in the area.
