Pinehurst Mortgage spending high before March freeze
Investigators found Pinehurst Mortgage and Loan Corp spent heavily before its March freeze, including dinners, two yachts, and legal fees for two officers. The firm raised 2.2 million from about 600 North Carolinians at 9 to 9.5 percent interest and has filed for executive bankruptcy reorganizations. Trustee John A. Huffines now oversees asset reviews for a June 15 investor meeting.
