Georgia tobacco market opens with plan to proceed
Atlanta July 29. Warehouse operators moved to prepare the Georgia leaf auctions for opening Thursday with the same hand charges as last year while court action seeks a halt under the new state law reducing final disposition. Judges from Macon and Augusta plus a Florida judge set a two week hearing to decide if an injunction should stand. Growers and warehousemen say they will proceed despite the plea, posting 2500 to guarantee costs if the law is upheld.

Ohio Valley Floods Sweep Hocking River Valley
Ras ing flood waters, the worst here in 22 years, cut a path of destruction through the Hocking River valley. Three hundred people were homeless at Lancaster, 18 miles north of Logan, where the surge swept away five houses and caused one death and injuries to several others.
