Market slips as investors wait on Vietnam and peace talks
At noon the Dow Jones average fell to 728.50 with declines slightly ahead of gains as profit taking weighed on sentiment. News of Vietnam and Mideast peace talks failing to spark optimism contributed to a cautious tone, while early second quarter results are not seen as indicative of a broader trend. Glamor stocks softened with Control Data IBM and Xerox among notable losers. Polaroid and FAS International showed mixed moves while RCA rose slightly.

U S Plans Troop Reduction in Korea Focus on Air Defense
The United States aims to cut about 20 000 of its 60 000 troops in South Korea this year while stabilizing air defenses. U S and South Korean officials say no change in the reduction plan and discuss shifting certain aircraft to bases in Korea for longer term use. The move seeks to bolster Korea's air defense amid a larger North Korean air force, with most U S fighters being F 4 Phantoms and South Korea's fleet dominated by aging aircraft.
