Sheep Production Profitable In North Carolina
North Carolina farmers can profit from sheep with three basics: love of the animals, proper care, and good management. W. G. Toomey cites the Hollis family of Fort Landing as an example, building a medium flock of 80-90 ewes, 20-30 ewe lambs, and 2-4 rams after starting with six scrub ewes and one ram in 1946. They recently placed 79 lambs in a Plymouth pool graded by USDA official H. D. Quessenberry, described as among the finest he has handled.
