Photos trace the re-entry of a Jupiter IRBM from Cape Canaveral Florida. Elapsed times show the sequence from 10 seconds with the rocket body to 19 seconds when the instrument package burns out. The nose cone was recovered in the Atlantic after about 24 seconds of glowing debris.
AP reports rare photos of a Jupiter missile nose cone re entering from a 1500 mile flight. Shot May 18 in the Atlantic near Antigua, the blazing fall was photographed from the USS Stickell as the upper stages separated and heated in the atmosphere.
In Moscow Khrushchev said the Soviet Union still wants a summit and that one will be held, if not with present leaders then with their successors. Clarissa said she finds happiness through Buddhism and will go to Bangkok then New Delhi to determine where she will serve. Her sister Cecilia previously debuted in 1953, and their grandparents hailed from Philadelphia and Berkeley.
Betty Lane Evans an 18 year old from Greenville won Miss North Carolina 1958 in Charlotte. Gerry Roddey Barron of Chester S C was first runner up and other finalists included Nancy Hackney Joyce Daughtry Carolyn Jones and Judy Hearne. Evans will compete for Miss America in Atlantic City and received a $1200 scholarship plus wardrobe.
A thunderstorm swept a 120 square mile area near the Colorado border in Kansas, piling hail up to an inch deep in 15 minutes. Official Meteo observer Harlan E.
