Gunships To Boost Offensive In Southeast Asia
The United States plans to add gunships in Thailand for the next hunting season against Communist supply routes in Laos while winding down troops in Vietnam. A $56 million modification program will keep airpower active on the Ho Chi Minh trail after most U.S. forces depart. Air Force gunships, rebuilt from transports and armed with heavy weapons, have accounted for about two thirds of over 25 000 trucks destroyed or damaged in Laos since November 1.
