Old Oakes glass jar mystery from Tipton Indiana

A five quart Oakes Manufacturing glass jar marked Cat No 70 likely dates to earlier times. Tipton Chamber of Commerce notes the firm became part of FMC Corp in 1952 and did not make jars but produced metal equipment and poultry waterers using glass jars. The jar may have housed chicks for water or warmth.

Fire crews battled a blaze at White Funeral Home in Henderson from after midnight until about 6 am. The two story building, 60 years old, was gutted leaving only walls. a brick chapel adjacent suffered smoke and water damage. Contractors Overcharge Reported in 1971

The Renegotiation Board said private space and defense contractors charged the federal government excess profits exceeding 65 million dollars in fiscal 1971. It made 149 determinations totaling 65,236,921 with many refunds or price cuts already arranged or under orders, and 17.5 million more under negotiation.
