Final Hearing Set On Randleman Dam Project Costs

Congress authorized the Randleman Dam on Deep River two miles north of Randleman as the twelfth final hearing in a decade. The Corps estimates total cost at 56.3 million dollars with 28.5 million federal and 27.8 million state shares. Benefits average 4.45 million annually against 2.27 million in costs, yielding a 1.64 to 1 ratio. The plan would generate about 1 million dollars yearly in retail sales and 40,000 dollars in sales tax revenue, while displacing roughly 600 people from 150 residences and farms, five percent of local agriculture. Displaced farm income could range 25,000 to 30,000 annually. A sewage bypass from High Point to below the dam is seen as the least costly method to ensure water quality, though it may cause foaming and odors at discharge.
