Romania Expands Kindergarten to All 3- to 5-Year-Olds
In Bucharest, a Communist led plan targets all three to five year olds by 1960 with more than 1 1 1 kindergartens already operating. About 660 000 children, 45 percent of this age, attend across 11 000 plus facilities. State costs per child average 570 dollars annually while parents contribute around 2 50 monthly. The drive aims to free mothers for work, raise education, and bolster ideological control as labor shortages rise and female enrollment expands.
