Wasteful aid inquiry flags costly saw mill projects
Investigators charged foreign aid officials wasted taxpayers money on a Formosa saw mill project and cited a stored US financed sawmill in Iran, an anti American Briton who blocked airport aid in Pakistan, and three oversized pumps unused for lack of a pumphouse. The probe headed by Rep Thomas Morgan held hearings on delayed air projects worldwide. No contract exists for the Formosa Ta Shu Shan Forest sawmill since 1956 while logs remain uncut.
