An Arlington Virginia motorist arrested by state highway patrol for speeding posted a 35 bond by peeling off his bankroll a single and 17 two dollar bills.
In Municipal Court Dwight Pendry, 43, drew 6 month suspended term and $100 fine for first drunk driving charge while a 12 month suspension, $200 fine, and three year license revocation applied to his second offense. A reckless driving count brought $10 fine and costs. L F Samuels, 31, got 60 day suspended sentence for reckless driving and $50 to the witness plus $15 fine and costs for improper brakes. Charles Austin, 28, received a six month road sentence suspended if he pays $35 and costs after being charged with attempted automobile larceny. Walter Marshall, 18, got six months suspended for vagrancy with orders to work for family support.

A total of 224 arrests were made during 1952 in a coordinated drive against illegal retail liquor dealers in five counties covered by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Division agents based in Greensboro. The chief credited county, federal, and local officers for the record arrests and noted strong cooperation. The year saw 37 vehicles seized and 1,831 gallons of whiskey destroyed with 62 illicit stills confiscated and 21,915 gallons of mash taken.
Police report a multi vehicle crash last night at North Main Street and Washington Street with three cars damaged about 300 dollars. John H. Watts 20 of King ran a red light and hit W M Davis 54 of 503 Montheu Avenue, then struck a parked jeep owned by Robert W Allman 18 of 405 White Oak Street. Watts cited for red light violation. Also involved were Paul Francis Kinarik 36 an Ohio salesman and Hadley D Stout 67 of 232 Edgwood Avenue around 1900 English Street. No injuries or charges. A separate rear end collision on English Street near Oakwood Court injured no one and total damage about 225 dollars. Joan L Tuttle 17 of Thomasville struck Bobby D Walker of Denton as he stopped in traffic delaying another incident.
A Thomasville couple was given suspended six month sentences for occupying a room for immoral purposes with one year good behavior conditions and $50 fines. Two Black men, William Strickland and Alton Helms, received suspended six month road sentences for assault with a deadly weapon and were ordered to stay away from the Royal Spot Cafe. Other cases included Violet Wise for prohibition, Willie Sims for no operator’s license, Hugh Nester and Virgil Hill for prohibition violations, and Charles Ga seem for reckless driving with a not guilty verdict.
Services for Herman Steve Lee, age three, were held Friday at Lebanon Methodist Church with Rev. William C. Sides Jr. officiating. Pallbearers were Lance Horney, Jasper Hedgecock, Kenneth and Sam Briggs. Interment followed in Floral Garden. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Lee of High Point Route 2 and died Wednesday afternoon in the local hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at Pleasant Cross Christian Church Randolpn County for three month old Darrell Lee Spencer son of Mr and Mrs William L Spencer. Interment followed in the church cemetery with pallbearers Daniel Talley Ralph Hoover Clyde Wood and R C Craver. Darrell was found dead in bed Thursday morning after illness since Sunday with death attributed to pneumonia.
Police report this morning of a 1952 car stolen last night from Jack's A-Drive-It on North Wrenn Archie Floyd Route 4 says someone took a shotgun from his car parked behind High Point Ice and Coal Co. A rear window at Lynch Gulf Service 200 Centennial Avenue was broken in during an attempted break-in thwarted by metal bars.
Evan Andrew Hall two month old son of Jesse James and Ruby Diles Hall died early Saturday at the Route 2 Thomasville home. He was born November 22, 1952 in Lexington. Survived by parents, grandparents Andrew Diles and Evan Hall of Wheelerright Kentucky, and sisters Ancta and Edith Hall. Body at J. C. Green and Sons Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.
Dema ree Bess of Asheville and Miss Beatrice Cobb of Morganton News-Herald led the State Press Association gathering with Cobb serving as principal speaker and Bess contributing as major demonstrator at the event.
John Hunter Burton 49 of Route Thomasville died Wednesday in High Point Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Requiem Mass was offered Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in High Point with Fathers Clarence Hill and Sam McSweeney in charge. Pallbearers included Paul Burton Henry Burton Alfred Craven H G Iderton Jr Lawrence F Harker J H Lambeth G W Bodenheimer and John Lee Bowers. Interment followed in Unity Methodist Cemetery Thomasville.
Fort Williams Ontario pigeons have long roosted at the courthouse leading the Board of Works to adopt a new method Alderman J. J. Spooner says uses grease on perches to deter the birds. He notes that after a slip the pigeons never return.
Ex High Point mayor William F. Bailey was appointed state Civil Defense Director, succeeding E. Z. Jones. Bailey, who has served as OPS regional director and Triangle Hosiery personnel chief, took the oath yesterday and will resign February 1 from Triangle Hosiery. He is a World War II veteran and former mayor from 1949 to 1951.
Billy Hussey known as the icebox burglar remains jailed in Greensboro where he faces four counts of breaking and entering and larceny. Police tie additional 1950 robberies to him and his wife Jacqueline. warrants also exist in Martinsville Virginia. High Point municipal court to hear three counts on Wednesday. Wife not located.
An Asheboro man was arrested on charges from a High Point complaint for failing to furnish materials and indebtedness in a 279 dollar construction transaction. Arthur McCoy was jailed for drunkenness and property damage. Bond totals 800 with hearings set in February.
In Toronto 83 year old Fred Faulkner was jailed for drunkenness after a judge sentenced him to two months. Faulkner retorted to Magistrate W. W. McKeown that the sentence was generous with someone else’s time.

He said Premier Daniel Malan’s administration seeks additional powers to deal swiftly with eventualities amid ongoing native resistance and a November riot where over 70 demonstrators were jailed.
