Britain warns Rhodesia of murder for defying Queen
London reported that Britain warned Rhodesia’s white regime it would be committing murder if it executes two Africans Lazarus and Runyowa whose death sentences were commuted by Queen Elizabeth to life imprisonment. The two men faced charges of arson under Rhodesia’s Law and Order Maintenance Act. Prime Minister Ian Smith rejected the reprieves as illegal despite loyalty to the Queen.
