Jessie May Hicks, 12, disappeared from her Lakewood home near Charlotte. Police widen search after she was seen near a store yesterday afternoon and may have traveled toward Gastonia or Belmont. Her father Henry Hicks travels to locate her, mother awaiting news. Described as large for her age, she wore a green dress an orange coat a blue hat and patent leather oxfords.

Man Killed After Quarrel With Great Uncle At Filling Station
Clarence Sechrest was shot and fatally wounded by his great uncle Marcus Trotter at a filling station four and a half miles north of Asheboro on the High Point Asheboro highway. Sechrest died within 45 minutes at Memorial hospital Asheboro. Trotter, arrested on a murder charge, remained at the scene until the sheriff arrived. The two men argued over buying gasoline on credit and Sechrest had recent unemployment. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
