AFT and High Point Board Clash Over School Selling Rules
The American Federation of Teachers clashed with High Point Board of Education over restrictions on soliciting and selling in public schools. National AFT representative Jerry Byrum and local AFT chief Willam McInnis argued the board minutes and policy limit teacher outreach, while Supt. Edwin West and board members defend the new daytime solicitation ban to protect teachers from harassment. The board voted previously to uphold the policy, leaving the Thursday dispute unresolved.
