High Point Boxing Meet Delivers Night of Thrilling Knockouts

Army and Marine fighters headline a long night of novice and open bout k os with Solomon Harris and Eugene Williams securing TKOs in the second round. Greensboro Leon Coleman and Charleston Mike Tomberlin also scored knockouts as fans packed the arena. The event continues with open division winners earning spots at the National AAU Championships in Trenton New Jersey in May.

James town seventh and eighth grade team evened its record at two wins two losses with a 44 to 37 defeat to Southeast Guilford Junior High. Richard Rickman scored 13, Mike Vaughn 12, and Jeff Sechrest 11 for Jamestown, while David Liston led Southeast with 13 points.

Death of 14-year-old champion sprinter horse at Tartan Farms

Ocala Florida AP reports the nation's 1959 champion sprinter, racing at 3, died of a heart attack at Tartan Farms. The 14-year-old horse had been at the farm since 1961 and stopped racing after winning the Seminole Handicap at age six.
