Whiskey Tax Case Heard by Supreme Court in Washington

Kentucky Attorney General Charles J. Dawson argued before the U S Supreme Court that a 50 cent per gallon tax on whiskey from bonded warehouses in Kentucky is not confiscatory. He cited injunctive actions in Kentucky and argued the law violates state and federal constitutions by providing no adequate remedy. He noted large tax revenues and argued there is no real competition, with distillers in Kentucky and elsewhere showing varied prices and profits.

Wheat Growers Adopt Plan to Stabilize Market Prices

W Fr McGreevy announces a national Wheat Growers Association convention to craft a plan based on cost of production plus a fair profit. The group, with 100000 members, will organize in 1921 across the Midwest including Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and parts of Colorado and Montana. The plan requires signing binding agreements to market only when the association price is reached, with monthly storage pricing to ensure fair delivery to mills and exporters. Members will act under rules set by national conventions or authorized committees.
