Partly cloudy and much colder tonight in both states with a cold air mass and a chance of freezing conditions. Saturday turns fair but still cold with inland and coastal winds shifting to moderate northwest along the coast and showers offshore tonight.
A petition filed in Greensboro federal court by three salesmen and Mickey and Matthews of High Point asks Judge Johnson J. Hayes to place Pat Brown, Inc. in bankruptcy. An injunction restrains asset disposal and a January 14 hearing date is set to decide if the action is bankruptcy. Receivership status remains until the judge rules.
Federal court action stalls plans as receivership continues under state court. O R Moore resigns as co receiver of Pat Brown Inc while Walter Crissman remains in charge. Laughlin Finance claims a $246.26 prior lien on a car held by the receivership amid ongoing insolvency proceedings. Meanwhile Japanese forces push toward central China with Nanking and Sushon fronts expanding.

Funeral Friday at 2 at Big Holiness church near Seagrove with Rev John Harrelson officiating burial in church cemetery.
An answer was filed in municipal court in the case of G B Hutchens as administrator of W W Peeler against Fray Ward and Blue Bird Cab Co. Ward, driver of the cab, struck Peeler on North Main last September 30, causing death. The defense says Peeler walked into the cab. Darrell Sechrest, 11, sues the High Point Randleman Asheboro Southern Railway for 10 000 for injuries after jumping from a 20 foot trestle when a train approached. Mrs Ruby Bailey sues for alimony against Arthur B Bailey, married in Danville Va in 1934, alleging neglect since Sept 14 1936 and requesting support and alimony pendente lite. J L Grubb trading as South Side Lumber Co sues C C Edwards for breach of contract and unpaid goods, seeking 189 84 and 179 43 damages.

John Arthur Allred aged 69 died at his Jamestown route one home at 12 50 this morning after a 15 month illness. He was born May 26 1868 in North Carolina to Joseph and Adeline Holder Allred. Survived by wife Alberta McGee three sons R A J A Allred of Jamestown J C Allred of High Point three daughters Mrs E W Coltrane Mrs Ransom Capps Mrs Caroline Welborn and Mrs Joe Hodgin all of Jamestown and Mrs Dixie Falk of Asheville 14 grandchildren four great grandchildren. Member Bates Memorial Wesleyan Methodist church once superintendent of Mitchells Grove church. Funeral Sunday at 2 pm at Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Methodist church with Rev F E W Jones officiating interment in Hickory Chapel cemetery. Body to be moved to home Saturday at 10 am.
Mary E. Williams 65 died at her son Claude Williams home in Colfax after months of declining health. Born December 5, 1872 in Rockingham County, she was the daughter of John and Deminis Lynch Williams and a Baptist church member. Surviving husband R T Williams of Brown Summit route 1, sons Claude Williams and R N Williams of Colfax, daughter Mrs Virgil Roberts of Greensboro, two half brothers Edgar Williams and Foscoe Williams, ten ducted. funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at Colfax M E church with Rev Lance, Kernersville cemetery final resting place.
Rev J Clay Madison was installed as new president of the Kiwanis club at the Elwood hotel luncheon meeting. Nine convicts who escaped from the Lee county prison camp in December have been recaptured and are back behind bars. The last to be captured was Trollie Conner, serving seven to eight years for breaking and entering in Bertie county, arrested yesterday in Baltimore.

Charles Austin of Siler City aged 102 died Tuesday. He is survived by his daughter Patty of Hiici Point and six other children, sixty grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
