Umstead Likely To Face Late Democratic Governor Bid
Raleigh observers expect William B. Umstead of Durham to surge in the Democratic race for governor within a week. Potential challengers include L. B. McLendon of Greensboro and Hubert E. Olive of Lexington, though both may bow out. If they decline, Umstead faces little serious opposition for the nomination seen as the general election prize.
