Youngsters Register To Vote In North Carolina

North Carolina 18 to 20 year olds began registering with local boards of election to vote in national elections. Alex Brock, executive secretary of the state Board of Election, estimated 195000 to 200000 eligible to register. The Supreme Court ruled Congress can lower the voting age to 18 for federal elections. NC requires 21, so separate records needed. Governor Bob Scott supports uniform 18-year-old voting in all elections.

Russians Invited To Aid Observers At Davis Trial

Washington AP reports Pyotr Kapitsa head of the Institute for Physical Problems and 13 Soviet colleagues were invited by the State Department to observe the murder kidnap trial of Angela Davis in California. Assistant Secretary Martin J Hillenbrand said the invitation followed a cable from the 14 Soviets urging that Miss Davis receive an air trial. He added the letter proposed Soviet attendance of U S observers at Soviet trials in return. No specific Soviet trials were named.
