New Mental Health Law Aims at Jail Detentions
ABC Profit notes a forthcoming law taking effect July 1 that would bar detaining belligerent patients in county jails while awaiting transfer to state mental hospitals. The Mental Health Department would handle transport, not the Davidson County Sheriff’s Dept. Civil Suit Likely To Be Dropped In North Carolina
High Point businessman John Hutchens says a civil suit naming him and nine others including Republican leader Jim Gardner will be dropped. First Citizens Bank of Greensboro filed the suit over a $5,000 unpaid debt tied to a 1968 loan of $50,000, with repayments of $45,000. Hutchens reported he paid his $5,000 and suspects the check was in transit when the suit filed. Gardner said he paid his amount long ago, noting an oversight may have occurred.
