A government communiqué reports Greek forces, elements of the 41st brigade moving from western Macedonia, entered Konitsa via Bourozani bridge on the key highway 11 west of the city. Entry occurred around 10 p.m. yesterday though communications were hindered by a heavy storm.
The Greek war ministry announced Konitsa is released from a Christmas siege by 5,000 guerrillas. A 1,000-man garrison was to be evacuated as relief elements entered from the west after dislodging rebels near Bourazani bridge. A second column’s progress was uncertain.
Weather forecast notes showers today and Friday with a mix of partly cloudy skies. Westerly winds grow strong as fronts pass, with mountain regions experiencing flurries and a rapid fall in temperatures by Friday.
Roxboro faced a potential disaster when 8000 gallons of gasoline escaped from a 15000 gallon tank that split at the bottom during filling. He notes packers fear rationing but acknowledge the situation may worsen by spring and cite falling cattle weights and large calf shipments as signs of stockpiled concerns about next year’s grain crop.
Western Carolina Teachers College completes its two year probation with acceptance as a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Executive secretary M C Huntly informs President W E Bird of the decision.
Pasadena Calif Jan 1 Colorado street became a gigantic floral wonderland as the 59th Tournament of Roses parade drew about 1 500 000 spectators. Early arrivals crowded the route staking views with blankets chairs and thermos coffee. Gen Omar N Bradley as grand marshal led the parade with Virginia Goodhue of San Gabriel and a court of six princesses.

Tommy Lee Phillips, 16, confessed to Sheriff C. A. Moss that he killed his father T. E. Phillips and mother Mrs. Phillips at their Winston-Salem area home. Phillips and companion Bessie Ruth Jenkins, 16, were found in a York cafe area and taken in for questioning as potential marriage plans surfaced.
