At the asphalt plant in the western city area, fireman Llewellyn of Hebert Lassiter & Co. died instantly after touching a live 110 volt secondary wire in contact with a 2200 volt primary line. He had worked eight months for the firm and left a widow, plus parents and relatives. Funeral details not set.
The High Point chamber of commerce group voted in favor of creating a North Carolina state chamber of commerce and urged legislators to act. They backed a $15,000,000 bond plan for highway construction and approved a tax on jitneys, seeking broad support from other NC cities. Dr Marion Lawrence of Chicago consulting secretary of the International Sunday School Association and D W Simms general superintendent of the North Carolina Sunday School Association will be principal speakers at the Sunday school convention in Charlotte on January 1. W E Price is president of Mecklenburg County Sunday School Association which sponsors the rally.
Mrs. Mack Hiatt is spending the weekend in Winston-Salem visiting friends and exploring local sites. She plans to return home after the short trip.
On New Year's Day 1923 New York faced an extremely wet start followed by a fierce dry crackdown as federal agents and police raided venues in the Broadway district and Greenwich Village. The ultra-volatile celebration left two dead and multiple injuries, with Home celebrations and a Monte Carlo raid marking the night. In St Louis two men were wounded and a barroom riot erupted at the Hotel Chase as enforcement teams searched for contraband liquor, injuring a bar official and others as chaos erupted.
Lincoln County seeks answers in the fatal wounding of Fred Allison 29 a Charlotte auto mechanic. Sheriff Abernethy summoned witnesses for a hearing ordered by Solicitor R L Huffman as deputies Baxter and Miller fled after a pistol shot during an attempted liquor haul. The coroner's jury ruled Allison died from a gunshot by a companion. Deputy Baxter already faces state charges and federal liquor law indictments are expected to be served this week.

The Weather Bureau called the inaugura tion awfully wet in several sections but forecast clearer, moderat e cold conditions as rain diminished and celebrants returned home.
In Bastrop Louisiana agents and sheriff's staff investigate the alleged kidnapping of Harold L Teegeston timekeeper at Spyker carbon plant. He was taken from his sleeping quarters by sixteen men who masked the license plates on six cars. Federal agents questioned Teegeston as they pursue a state witness role in upcoming hearings.
Greensboro January 1 Alvin M Owsley national commander of the American Legion will spend two days in North Carolina early in March according to a tentative announcement received by the state department adjutant from Commander James A Lockhart of Charlotte The itinerary of the national executive will be announced within the next weeks
W A Graham superintendent of consolidated schools in New Hanover will be the chief speaker at the Battle of Fort Fisher celebration on January 15. Representatives of the United Confederate Veterans Sons of Veterans United Daughters of the Confederacy and other groups are expected to attend the exercises at the Fort.

North Carolina farmers received over 6.29 million dollars in 1922 through federal and joint stock land banks, totaling more than 15 million since start. Federal banks lent about 5.7 million and joint stock banks about 600,900, with five joint stock banks in the state and one federal bank in Columbia. The system now totals over 865 million nationwide, aiding about 245,000 farmers across 39 states with loans backed by farm land securities.
