President Nixon nominated James C. Fletcher to lead NASA as administrator. The 51 year old educator and physicist heads the University of Utah and College of Eastern Utah since 1964. Fletcher has held roles at Harvard Princeton UCLA Cal Tech and industry work on guided missiles and space technology.
High winds and heavy snow hit Minnesota Wisconsin and parts of the Ohio Valley with gusts up to 72 mph. Roads blocked power lines downed 500+ without electricity in Brainerd and Windom as crews used snowplows to reach hospitals and keep routes open.
