Mrs. Tom Quinn, wife of High Point College coach, sprinted onto the Lexington YMCA Gym floor to embrace her husband as the Purple Panthers defeated Appalachian 59 55 to clinch the Carolinas Conference tournament title.
President nominates Jakin Brimmer to a 14 year term on the Federal Reserve Board subject to Senate confirmation. The board, recently split, voted 4 to 3 in December to raise the discount rate to 4 1/2 percent, a move tied to the broader debate over easy versus tight money. Brimmer has endorsed using taxes as a stimulus and Rep. Wright Patman criticizes the arrangement, urging lower rates.
