Judge Lewis B Teague heard arguments on a temporary restraining order aimed at blocking Sheriff C E King of Randolph County from seizing slot machines. The case centers on a talking vending device that promises varying returns and dispenses mints, with the judge noting such devices violate the law if they award unequal value.
Randolph citizens testified that machines delivered nothing for the first nickel and 70 cents and another affiant said no mint winnings. Counsel for owners sought a March 15 date in Randolph Superior Court, while the county attorney aimed for an immediate libaring. An agreement sets the hearing before Judge Frank Armstrong next Monday, with Sheriff not seizing machines for now. prior restraining order to seize unlawful machines within 10 days has elapsed.
An autopsy in Palm Springs found the fatal bullet was fired from a gun held close to Humphrey Pearson’s chest. Undersheriff Steve Lynch of Riverside County called the death an accidental shooting and noted paraffin tests on Pearson and his wife were unlikely to yield results.
