The market drifted lower early in the afternoon with fractional losses in motors aircrafts chemicals rails oils and distillers while steels base metals utilities and building materials showed uneven gains. Reports of 1957 GNP decline and autos steel cutbacks muted confidence as major stocks fluctuated and corporate news remained scant.
