State Won't Appeal Speaker Ban Ruling
North Carolina will not appeal after a federal court struck down the amended Speaker Ban Law as vague. Gov. Dan Moore, with Deputy Atty. Gen. Ralph Moody and Col. William Joyner, said the decision allows trustees and administrators to guide speaker invitations, urging UNC to uphold the law’s basic intent without exploitation of campuses. The three judge panel voided the law after a suit from UNC Chapel Hill student leaders, who argued it infringed free expression.
