ABA backs Carswell as qualified for Supreme Court seat
The American Bar Association's Federal Judiciary Committee chaired by Lawrence Walsh found G Harrold Carswell qualified in professional competence judicial temperament and integrity. The panel unanimously reaffirmed the previous evaluation after reviewing Senate hearings a segregationist speech and past affiliations. The ABA stance supports Carswell ahead of a Senate confirmation fight where 15 senators oppose him and the Judiciary Committee previously approved 13-4.

NASA fails to locate Monique the Elk by satellite
Washington AP reports a second satellite attempt to locate Monique the Elk in Wyoming failed Saturday. A NASA observer will hike in to try to locate the herd after interference or transmitter failure disrupted signals with the Nimbus III satellite.

Lunar Eclipse Lowers Moon Temperature 91 Degrees
Apollo 12 instruments near the lunar landing site recorded a 91 degree temperature drop during a partial eclipse. Dr. Gary Latham of Columbia University noted a 40 percent drop in light intensity over about 90 minutes as the Moon passed through a shadow cast by Earth against the Sun.
