Chicago Feb 22 Twelve hours after confessing an abortive plot to kidnap Davenport Iowa publisher Emanuel Adler Fred Mayo alias Charles Phillips of Birmingham Ala hanged himself in a Marquette police cell He died after being found suspended by a neck scarf Mayo had implicated Jack Lacy alias Wyman as his confederate in the plan to seize Adler and haul him to a trunk at the Morrison hotel The case led to the arrest of Mrs Minnie Lacy and the trunk's buyer who aided Mayo in the scheme
