Washington officials said the Lusitania pact remains grave as Germany’s submarine policy lacks future guarantees. The plan to sink armed merchantmen after February 25 is still a concern, and the pact covers past issues without full U S assurances against another disaster.
U S consular officials in China especially Shaoghai are gathering details on the removal of 31 Germans from the American steamer China on the high seas last week. Late Saturday in Greensboro Superior Court a jury verdict dismissed the $82,000 damage claim by FE L Madison a black preacher against North Carolina Public Service Co. Madison from High Point sought unlawful elect ion damages. the defense was Roberson Barnhardt and Smith. The trial stretched Friday afternoon into Saturday with a verdict for the defendant on all issues.
Five Carolina students from Chapel Hill on Friday night went hunting for possums in an old fashion hunt. The group led by Bruce H. Carraway and others started at 9 and returned with an eight pound possum at dawn.
The infant girl of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Staméy died Saturday afternoon at 213 East Washington Street. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon with Rev. Gilbert T. Rowe of Weeley Memorial Church conducting the service from the levee. Interment followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
