American Party Fields First NC Congressional Candidates
RALEIGH AP The North Carolina Board of Elections saw the first American party filings for Congress. Greensboro businessman Lynwood Bullock paid 425 dollars to run in the Sixth District, while Gennett of New Bern filed in the First District. Bullock cites divine prompting to oppose “evil” in government and faces veteran Republican Charles R. Jonas in November. Bahakel, 50, also filed as a Democratic candidate for Congress in the Ninth District, saying there is a strong desire for a contest. Other filings include Democrat Joe Gambill for District Court judge, Democrat Lacy Blue for solicitor, and several other judgeships and positions from Charlotte, Fayetteville, Asheboro, and Kannapolis. Hinshaw notes party leadership may not back Leggett in the First District. The stories reflect a sparse election filing day with multiple parties represented in various districts.
