Sound of Music tour gets lavish road treatment
Broadway’s Sound of Music is being prepared for a national tour with top creative input and a larger production. Florence Henderson stars in the road company opening Feb 27 in Detroit, with extended runs planned in major cities. The touring version mirrors the Broadway set and costumes, financed at 325000 dollars, and uses lighter metal props to cut freight. Henderson rose to fame in 1955’s Fanny and will lead the tour with guidance from Rodgers Hammerstein stalwarts and producers Hayward and Lindsay-Crouse.
