AFL-CIO probes to spare Hutcheson amid union shakeup
AFL-CIO leaders plan to spare Carpenters Union President Maurice Hutcheson from removal and will launch a broad corruption probe of the 850000-member Carpenters union. Hutcheson faces Indiana highway land scandal indictments and questions from the Senate LM Committee, but leaders seek his written pledge he did not misuse funds. The probe may cover Charles Johnson of New York Carpenters, with salaries and expenses totaling about 450000 over three years.
