A clash between about 30 Negro and white youths broke out with bricks bottles and rocks in High Point North Carolina as a two week protest over lunch counter segregation intensified. The fight followed a King visit to Durham and a Raleigh picketing at Woolworth stores. King urged willingness to endure jail as more protests loomed. Forty three Raleigh Negroes were jailed last week for trespass outside a Woolworth store.
Gallatin Missouri AP reports 90 year old farmer John William Knight is donating his 160 acre farm estate to 12 nieces and nephews, four churches and the Salvation Army. He has already given away $15,000 of a $60,000 total, saying taxes and government angered him since youth and he prefers to direct his wealth before death. Knight plans to continue gifting the rest next year if alive, aiming for a "clean heart and clear head."
