Attempt Change of Membership in Lower House

Washington February 17 Last minute efforts to reapportion the house before March 4 were pressed in two committees. Despite no prior realignment since 1913, lawmakers doubt final action this session due to time. Met area Republicans oppose changes while agricultural representatives push. Prohibitionist rural members seek to bar aliens in cities from counting. The judiciary committee considered Hoch resolution to remove 10 million aliens from the count. A census committee drive aims to vote Thurston bill to raise seats from 435 to 475.
