North Carolina Debates Auto Tax Equity and Highway Limits
Raleigh reports Congress hearings on auto industry bills. Dealers push for more equitable license tax distribution, while a highway weight bill limits trucks to 15 000 pounds with amendments up to 28 000 pounds debated. State Highway Commission chief Frank Page argues for 20 000 pounds on select roads. Public safety measures include a state driver license and highway patrol proposal as well as tire-insurance licensing debates.
