High Point police report a jail break attempt Monday night as Lawrence East forced Magistrate Wally Foutch to release Margaret Simmons. East, armed with a .38 pistol, threatened to kill if he was thwarted and led Simmons from the jail to a waiting green Pontiac. A warrant for assault with a deadly weapon was issued for East, while Simmons remained jailed on an arson-related charge.
