In North Carolina experiments two new chemicals, Manzate and Vancide, reduced blue mold in tobacco. Manzate at half a pound per 100 gallons cost about 30 cents per 100 square yards, safer than Fermate but rate limits apply. Vancide matched Fermate in efficacy in sprays or dust but remains experimental with undetermined cost.
