Warren Favored for Meekins Federal Judgeship
Washington February 15 indications pointed to Comptroller General Lindsay C Warren as successor to Federal Judge J M Meekins who yesterday announced his resignation from the eastern North Carolina district bench. Warren has been comptroller since 1940 and would resign his post only after the judgeship is offered, which is expected. Judge Meekins said he planned to retire upon reaching his 70th birthday.

In Raleigh on February 15 1943 Elmer Hardie Biggs William Dal Biggs and John Edgar Messer face execution for the February 9 1943 slaying of E J Swanson a Jamestown storekeeper. Governor Cherry said he studied the case and did not intervene. The youths from Stokes Rockingham counties and Washington DC had a prior May 1943 conviction and a 1944 retrial conviction. State witnesses identified Messer as the shooter with Biggs in the pistol hand and Elmer Biggs in the getaway car.
