Scott Leads Tar Heels To 96 84 Win Over State

The 19 year old New York City born guard Charlie Scott scored a career high 34 points as North Carolina defeated North Carolina State 96 84 in Chapel Hill. Scott hit 14 of 23 from the floor and 6 of 7 from the line, with 18 by halftime. Larry Miller added 24 and Rusty Clark 13 as UNC extended its ACC record to 8 0. State’s Eddie Biedenbach tallied 28 in a losing effort while Dick Braucher and Joe Serdich contributed 20 and 16 respectively. Coach Dean Smith lamented defensive lapses and too many charging fouls in the uneven win. The game included a mid second half scuffle between Gerald Tuttle and Biedenbach as tempers flared on the floor.
