Warren and Christy Case Heads for U.S. Supreme Court

In Raleigh on February 9 the North Carolina Supreme Court denied an application for a writ of error seeking a U S Supreme Court appeal. Mrs Warren and Samuel P Christy, under sentence of death for the 1914 murder of George J Warren near Winston, argued the confessions violated due process. Parish of Winston said he would appeal to Chief Justice White for a writ of error.

Telephone Men Meet in This City for State Convention

Delegates from North Carolina Virginia and part of South Carolina will gather in High Point February 22 1916 for the North Carolina district of the Southern States Independent Telephone Association. About 50 to 100 delegates are expected with talks on management and independent companies and possible Bell system connections amid ongoing negotiations between local carriers. The Elwood hotel will serve as headquarters and the two day meeting may extend.

Relief measures for flood sufferers organized in Arkansas

State troops set up a central refugee camp at three points on the eastern Arkansas flood area. Tents and equipment from the Little Rock armory and Arkansas City were sent as relief expeditions stockpile rations for 3000 marooned near Pendleton while levees along the Mississippi hold near crest.
