Wilson's Only Democratic Name Filed in Indiana

The Indiana primary will on March 7 nominate President Wilson as the sole Democratic candidate after Secretary Yumulty placed his name on the ballot. Democratic leaders confirmed the filing during a long distance call, finalizing the nomination on January 7, the filing deadline.

Seaboard Limited Derails North of Nanford Killing Engineer

The Seaboard Air Line Limited derailed north of Nanford early today. Engineer Dave Wright was killed and the fireman sustained a broken arm. None of the passengers were injured.

Guilford College Weighs Spring Endowment Campaign

Guilford College plans a spring endowment drive to raise funds from trustees and friends. Key participants include President Thomas Newlin and Greensboro trustees J S Cox P Frazier, meeting in High Point with Trinity board members J Elwood Cox C F Tomlinson W T Parker and M E English. Current endowment sits at 185000, with plans to substantially increase it.

Wilson Expected To Announce Candidacy Within The Month

Associated Press reports President Wilson's advisers anticipate a formal candidacy announcement within the month. Ohio law requires a consolidate to notify the secretary of state by February 25 to allow his name in the primaries. National League Directors Meet In New York Today

New York Feb 8 The National League opens its annual meeting to adopt the 1916 playing schedule and consider raising the per club player limit beyond 21. Approval of the schedule is expected to be formal as Barnes Dreyfuss and secretary John A Heydler prepared it in advance.

January births exceed deaths in High Point 1916

City vital statistician Dr. D. A. Stanton reports High Point had 43 births and 22 deaths in January 1916. Outside the city, 10 births and 3 deaths. High Point township shows 52 births and 25 deaths, more births than deaths in that month.

Roosevelt funds in futures drive a Brooklyn girl’s plea

Marjorie Sterrepp, who started a dime fund to build a battleship for Uncle Sam, received a letter from Col. Theodore Roosevelt with ten dimes. He said four were for his four grandchildren and six were for grandchildren not yet born.

Telephone Merger Aims To Merge Bell and North State

High Point manufacturers plan a three city push to unite Bell and the North State systems. A committee from Thomasville Lexington and High Point will meet to discuss forming a new company with local subscribers to gain Bell long distance access while preserving North State control. The merger seeks to reduce competition and boost shareholder revenues.

Bird S Coler and Friends Plan Regional Rail Expansion

Bird S Coler of New York and a party including Miles Bronson Edward Loswell Waltin Shepherd and a New York Central official toured the Piedmont area to discuss plans for extending the Carolina and Yadkin Railway toward Thomasville Greensboro Winston-Salem and possibly further. Endeavorers Hold Get Acquainted Meeting At Wriends Church

The Christian Endeavor Union of High Pont opened its Endeavor week with a social get acquainted meeting at Wriends Church. The Friends and city Endeavorers enjoyed a pleasant evening, with Rev. P. Coble speaking briefly. Tonight there is a rehearsal for the play Mrs Churchs Baby, to be staged Friday by the local union.

Navy Strengthening Bills Sent Over to Senate

Washington reports house measures to bolster the navy were sent to the senate. A bill would add 300 midshipmen to the Annapolis entrance class next July. Another calls for upgrading the New York and Mare Island navy yards and for building battleships Nos. 45 and 44.
